2.6Researching Company Values Before the Interview
Spending 30 minutes on company research before the interview has disproportionate impact. Here is a systematic approach:
| Source | What to Look For | How to Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Company careers page | Mission statement, values, engineering blog | Reference specific values in your answers |
| Glassdoor/Blind reviews | Common complaints, culture patterns | Prepare honest questions about potential concerns |
| Current employees' backgrounds, team size | Understand the team structure and seniority mix | |
| GitHub (if open source) | Code review practices, CI setup, test coverage | Reference their actual tech stack in technical answers |
| Company engineering blog | Tech stack, testing philosophy, architecture | Tailor your examples to their domain |
| Recent news/press releases | Product direction, funding, growth stage | Show you understand their business context |
Example of using research in an answer: "I noticed from your engineering blog that you recently migrated to a microservices architecture. In my last role, I designed the contract testing strategy for a similar migration using Pact, which caught 23 integration failures in the first month. I would be excited to bring that experience to your API testing challenges."
